My "Lucky" Lantana! I've recently added this gorgeous plant to my indoor plant collection. It also stays outside sometimes too. It keeps away a fair amount of herbivores, because the leaves are poisonous to them. I haven't had any problems myself, so I'm keeping them around. I like the slightly lemon smell they give off and they brighten up my living room quite nicely.
I live in a hot area that routinely gets up too 100+ degrees in the summer and down to 8 degrees in the winter. Nice and hardy, my Lantana is of the Spanish Flag variety. It's made for containers so I won't have a problem of them overrunning anything. The birds like the little berry fruits that start green and ripe to a shiny dark blue. Not for human consumption but there are different views on whether or not the berries are edible. If you plan to put them in your garden you may have to keep them under control. Just like the Morning Glory that can overrun your garden without maintenance, Lantana needs that loving care but is a welcome addition to any garden. It adds fragrance, although not overbearing, and a splash of color. This type will keep the room sunny all year long. |
